Abstract

The resettle of the Kingdom of Granada after expelling the moorish was taken advantage by Philip II to preceed an important reduction of the domain jurisdiction in order to benefit the new settlers, the new councils and the royal treasury. This fact was the origin of the disputes between the king and the feudal lords who didn’t accept to reduce their power. The Vélez marquisate case is specially important because Philip II acted against D. Luis Fajardo, who had been one of his loyal allies during the war against the moorish. This confrontation between the king and the nobility, and the fierce attack to the resettlement, shows us a clear “lords reaction”.
