The first patent regarding the preparation of gelatine capsules was granted in France in 1834. The publication entitled “Torebki albo kapsułki galaretowe, capsulae gelatinosae oraz torebki otwierające się, envelopes medicamentecises sposób robienia i użyteczność tychże” [“Gelatine shells or capsules, capsulae gelatinosae, and shells that can be opened, envelopes medicamentecises, the way of manufacturing and usefulness thereof”] by Aleksander Karwacki (1825–1871) was published 25 years after this event.
