Influence of treatment period on the effect of As-Cr interaction on plasma glucose and cholesterol levels
Abstract
The influence of treatrnent period on the effect of As-Cr interaction on plasma
glucose and cholesterol levels has been studied. Growing Wistar rats have been do sed
with 5g/g food of As(AsP5) and/or Cr(CrCI), for two periods of time. 6 and 12 weeks.
The results show that As-Cr interaction has not significant effect on glucose levels at two
periods (96.61 vs 98.76 y 99.66 vs 100.01, respectively). However, Cr adrninistration
compensates the effect produced by As on cholesterol levels in all the cases. After 12
weeks of treatment the As produces a toxic action and the plasma cholesterol levels are
twice higher that the control group.
