Efecto de la subnutrición sobre la secreción de insulina: estudio en la etapa fetal
Keywords:
fetal period, subnutrition, insuline secretionAbstract
Mother's undernutrition during pregnancy may alter the normal development of
the fetal endocrine pancreas. The present work shows the effect of 65% restriction in
mother's intake during the initial, middle and final third of pregnancy. At day 21.5 of
pregnancy, body weight, blood glucose and insulin as well as pancreatic insulin were
detennined both in mothers and fetuses. From these data it is concluded that subnutrition
during the final third of gestation is critical for the development of fetal pancreas. The
insulin-secretory response of the fetuses from undernourished mothers was determined
in vitro. This response not only did not decrease but appeared to shows an increase in
the functionality of the fetal cells as a result of the maternal subnutrition.
Key words: Fetal periodo Insulin secretion. Subnutrition.
