Influence of the thyroid status on the regulation of the IGFs/IGFBPs axis
Keywords:
IGFs, ThyroidAbstract
A series of experiments have been performed in three populations of rats: neonates
(lO, 15 and 20-day-old rats), weanning (27, 32 and 37-day-old rats) and adult rats.
These animals were thyrectomized, tretaed with metimazol and sacrified after 5, 10 and
15 days of thyrectomy. Rats were subsequently recovered with 1,5 ¡¡g of tiroxin per 100
g of body weight in the case of neonates and 1,75 ¡¡g in the case of adults. The recovery
was al so made by pellet implantation. Circulating IGFs and IGFBPs were determined
as well as the express ion of hepatic rnRNA. It is concluded that the action of the
thyroid hormones on the IGF/IGFBP axis is age related. In addition, is concluded that
insulin may mediate the effect of thyroid hormones.
