In this edited volume, David Soto Carrasco and Giorgia Bertozzi invite the readers to immerse themselves in the depths of the Lovecraftian universe, highlighting the philosophical and political implications of the so-called cosmic horror. In constant dialogue with the history of ideas —with frequent references to major figures of universal philosophy—, with specialists on Lovecraft's work, and with the author’s own stories, this book aims to clarify the philosophical and conceptual keys underlying his fictional universe. It offers reflections on topics such as the nature of modernity, the limits of modern knowledge, the human condition, and the structure of reality itself. Literature and philosophy converge in this volume, capturing the interest of both those seeking to understand the work of the American writer and those wishing to delve into the fundamental questions it raises, as well as the epistemological and ontological debates that continue to shape contemporary philosophy.
