Abstract

El Real de San Andrés was the first officially established hospital in the Viceroyalty of Peru, dedicated to the exclusive attention of  Spanish men. Descriptions of the first century of conquest mention it as well as the site of the last known location of the mummies of Incas Huayna Capac and Pachacútec- a mysterious episode studied so far unsuccessfully. Unfortunately the building is currently abandoned and its conservation is endangered.
