Abstract

This article deals with the functions, characteristics and components of ethnic stereotypes in literary texts. Based on the literary production of V. Erofeev, the paper shows both the origins and the various stages of creation of new auto- and hetero-stereotypes. In addition, we analyse the ways of augmenting existing stereotypes with new contents dictated by changes in social conditions and objectives.
