Abstract

A brief pragmatic study on the use of the subjunctive mood in the Spanish grammar according to speech acts —assertion/non assertion of Terrell and Hooper (1974)— provides an overall model for establishing a unique criterion in identifying this verbal mode, which therefore represents a useful tool for teaching Arabic-speaking students, in whose language the subjunctive mood is analyzed from merely formal parameters.
