Abstract

Many studies ha ve shown the eclectic character of the ciceronian works. It blends elements taken from rhetoric and philosophy in his forensic speeches as in his philosophical works. The De fato treatise can be understanded as an argumentatio of the different philosophical schools, epicurean, stoic and neoacademic, about the problem of fate. In this treatise, the data are manipulated, in a rhetoric way, in favor of the statements of neoacademic school.
