Abstract

Classic literary sources and archeological si tes ha ve proven the existence of the Baeturiae, an aged concept used by Greek-Roman history authors. Two Pre-Rornan ethnic groups, Celts and Turduli, inhabited the geographical Baeturiae. These two groups were located at the Ardila and Zujar valleys respectively. The detailed information available, although insufficient, from literary sources has rnade evident that the Baeturiae was an area of interest to accomplish the conquest and romanization ofHispania. The objective of this paper is to define correctly the Baeturiae concept, its limits, the ethnic groups that inhabited it, and its territorial organization.
