Abstract

We have sought to analise the historical evolution of Montilla (Cordova) during Ancient Times and the Middle Ages in order to reach a better understanding of the organization of this territory in the Antiquity. Montilla, situated in excellent economic surroundings with a great epigraphical and archaeological wealth, is the likely si te of an lbero-Roman oppidum, of which the remaining information allows us to know only its rural organization. The existence of an inhabited settlement is known only from the Modern Age, but there is wide evidence of its existence in previous times, which may be the reason why there have been attempts to locate severa! ancient towns on its grounds, without success.
