Abstract

This paper intents to research in some of Greek novels, the presence of motives belonging to the Latin Love elegy and the hellenistic epigram: I have reunited all of them under the denomination of ars amandi, due to the fact that they are characteristic of love understood as seduction and conquest, in opposition to the dominant ideal love of the Greek novel. For such aim, 1 have chosen the stories of Aquilles Tatius, Chariton of Aphrodisias and Xenophon of Ephesus.
