Teología y humanismo: La correspondencia entre Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda y Melchor Cano

Abstract

In this article we try to explain sorne critical points which enhance a comprehensive understanding ofthe correspondence between Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda and Melchor Cano. Of paramount importance is the examination ofthe four remaining letters in view of their historical and cultural background: at frrst place, in relevance to the conflict between Theology and Humanism; secondly, in association with the strong opposition of Las Casas and others Dominican monks against the publication of the Democrates secundus. A synopsis with the content of the letters is enclosed.
