Abstract

This paper proposes a rhetorical analysis of Hannibal’s speech before the battle of Ticinum (Liv. XXI 43-44): structure, elements, literary adornment, topoi, dramatic pur­pose. We also pay attention to the influence of rhetorical rules of Cicero’s work Partitiones oratoriae on the composition of Livy’s speech.
