Abstract

The production of works on dystopian subjects has increased considerably becoming an emerging theme. The present work aims to carry out a descriptive study that quantifies and analyzes the evolution of the presence of these dystopian themes in discographic works. This type of works was searched through the Allmusic musical database, registering a total of 88 albums, that were analyzed to integrate these data into the different categories of a designed registration card. Both literature and cinema have included these subjects using music as an enhancer of the emotional ingredient of the stories presented. Music is no longer a mere accompaniment, giving rise to dystopian projects in which music is the main protagonist. The analysis of results shows the increasing publication of dystopian musical compositions, compares production by country, and provides data about the presence of dystopia in different musical styles.
