Fostering meaningful Education: Exploring ethical awareness and ethical literacy in Preschools through qualitative research

This paper presents the initial findings of a qualitative study investigating the relationship between ethics and education in Italian preschool settings. The research employs the methodology of Constructivist Grounded Theory (CGT) to emphasise the indispensable role of promoting ethical awareness in early childhood education. The preliminary results from the interpretation of intensive interviews with preschool teachers indicate that the structuring of ethically significant educational experiences can be a factor in the growth of ethical awareness. From a theoretical and practical perspective, the study posits that stimulating ethical awareness from early childhood can prevent the rise of an increasingly widespread phenomenon: ethical illiteracy.

Parental separation can profoundly impact children, emphasizing the necessity to prioritize their holistic well-being. Physical joint custody, promoting equal or similar time with both parents, has gained traction based on international research. However, it's debated whether dual residence always meets children's best interests. Our systematic review from 2000 onwards, drawing from PubMed, Scopus, and various legal and psychological associations, explores this issue.

Research suggests that predominantly placing children with one parent, with tailored visitation schedules aligned with their psychological, physiological, and situational needs, may better serve their welfare. Advocates argue that equal time arrangements can disrupt the stability crucial for healthy child development, despite increasing court and international support.

This study seeks to inform custody decisions that prioritize children's needs over adult preferences, advocating for nuanced custody and visitation redefinitions in legal frameworks. The goal is to safeguard children during separations by focusing on their well-being above all else.

Metacognição e Compreensão Leitora: uma revisão sistemática

Estudos empíricos sobre a cognição sugerem que a metacognição pode estar relacionada com a compreensão leitora. O presente trabalho investigou a existência de relações entre a metacognição e a compreensão leitora, a partir de uma revisão sistemática da literatura de estudos empíricos publicados entre 2017 e 2024, e disponíveis nas bases de dados da Web of Science, Embase, Eric e SciELO. Os dados analisados permitiram identificar o papel que alguns componentes específicos da metacognição, como detecção e reparo de inconsistências e estratégias globais de metacognição, têm sobre a compreensão leitora. Discute-se possíveis contribuições desses resultados tanto para práticas pedagógicas nas séries iniciais, quanto a possibilidade de uso no planejamento e implementação de políticas públicas voltadas à superação do analfabetismo funcional.
