Abstract

Guadix cathedral is a building full of contradictions and grey areas. The present study has two main aims: to correct some erroneous views regarding specific parts of the cathedral, and to provide further information on the baroque extension. We reflect on the original situation of the main chapel, the way the cathedral originally faced and the round chapel dedicated to St. Torcuato. We also study the 18th century reforms, in which the old columns, walls and gothic friezes from the early 16th century were decorated with stucco-work in imitation of classical models.
