Abstract
Acetoacetate and β-hyddroxybutyrate are mainly produced by the hepatic and renal tissues as consequence of an increase of fatty acid oxidation and constitute an excellent energetic combustible for respiration in other tissues particularly when the glucose disponibility is limited, such as during fasting or during an inability of its utilization in situations of insulin insufficiency such as diabetes. In this work we study the ketone body metabolism under these physiological and pathological situations in which its blood concentration in crease above control values. Also tbis revison study in deptb the ketogenesis regulation and those factors that affect the ketone body production.
