Abstract

After a short historical introduction about the interest that the remedies originating from the vegetable World have supposed for the man from the origin of Humanity, the author proceeds to envisage some of the principal contributions that during the present century have accomplished, of the hand of the man, the vegetable species within the therapeutic field. They are underlined especially, among others, the principies obtained from Tolypocladium genus (cyclosporin) and of Taxus genus (taxol), in function of the unquestionable interest that present cyclosporin and taxol, the first as irnmunosuppressor and the second as antineoplasic. AIso are included sorne of the more significative results obtained by the Natural Products Pharmacology group of Granada University, in relation to different species of Salvia, Rosmarinus and Santolina genus, in fields such as the diabetes treatrnent and that of principies with antioxidant and hepatoprotective activities.
