Abstract

The effect of indole-acetic acid (IAA) on radicle emergence and growth in Phaseolus vulgaris, L. varo eagle seeds has been studied, together with its effect on ethylene production. Concentrations 10-4M of exogenous IAA increase germination. Concentrations of more than 10-4M results in diminished germination. Decoating the seed stimulates the growth of the embryonic axis and this effect is enhanced by IAA and tryptophan. The embryonic axis produces the greatest quantity of gas. The presence of IAA in the germination medium al ways increased the rate of ethy lene production for each of the vegetable materials used.
