Abstract

A study about the growing of the cattle tick Hyalomma (H) marginatum marginatum in the laboratory is carried out and a breeding method is described. Larvae and nymphs were fed on chickens; adults were fed on rabbits. The non-parasitic stages were kept under constant conditions (28 ± 1 °C; 75 ± 5 per cent R.H. and 12/12 hours light/darkness cycle). With our rearing system we obtained and avg rate of population increase of 860 X/generation.
