Abstract

A study about the feeding pattern followed by the adult cattle tick Hyalomma (H.) lusitanicum on rabbits, was carried out. The feeding technique used was after Bailey's «ear-bags» method. Tick females fed on the host during 10,3 days (5-17) while males stayed on it for 26,5 days (17-34). It was observed that the massive dropping-off of the males took place once practically all the females had left the host. The yield of tick feeding on rabbits for both sexes was over 80 %.
