Abstract

Endogenous calcium excretion during pregnancy and the effect of calcium deprivation on litter was studied in rats. During pregnancy it is observed an highly significant in crease of endogenous calcium losses by faeces and urine; the los ses are maintained during the 21 days period. However in the second half of pregnancy, the calcium losses de crease in relation to the first one. The effect of nutritive calcium deprivation during pregnancy is bone decalcification of the mothers and a smaller size of the foetusses; nevertheless calcification of the newborns skeleton in terms of mg of calcium per gramme of body weight is normal.
