Abstract

The rate of the aqueous hydrolysis of the acetylsalicylic acid has been measured at the temperatures of 17°, 30° and 40° C over the pH range 0,3 to 12,5, by determining the liberated salicylic acid spectrophotofluorimetricaly. The reaction follows a first-order kinetics. A comparison of the results at 17° C with those obtained by previous investigators shows good agreement. Assuming a mechanism anteriorly proposed, the activation energies of four contributing reactions have been calculated.
