Abstract
Se estudian las circunstancias que concurrieron en la creación del Laboratorio Químico de la Real Botica, a finales del siglo XVII. La iniciativa ,parte del Boticario Mayor, Juan de Moya. Para dirigir dicho Laboratorio se seleccionó en Italia, entre los más acreditados profesionales a Víctor Cataido, que presentó un memorial sobre todo lo necesario tanto a instalaciones como a productos químicos y utensilios. Más tarde se contrató para ayudarle y continuar su proyecto al boticario "galénico y espargírico" Juan de Bayle. La acogida que se dispensó a estos químicos boticarios y a las innovaciones que traían no encontraron suficiente apoyo y la introducción de los medicamentos químicos en España, tendría que librar duras batallas, durante bastantes años después, antes de conseguir su plena aceptación. Pero esta iniciativa surgida en la Real Botica no deja de ser un importante testimonio histórico.
