We present one case of meningitis by L.monocytogenes in an elderly person without another cause of inmunodeficiency. He developed a syndrome characterised by fever, headache, nausea and vomiting. Several days later these symptoms got worse and he developed a severe brain stem dysfunction. Neuroimaging techniques were normal and they did not positively contribute to the diagnostic process, which was
confirmed by the isolation of the microorganism in CSF and indirect agglutination , which showed high concentrations of antibodies, although blood cultures were negative without having previously presented clinical evidence of sepsis. The use of a specific antibiotic therapy led to a favourable clinical outcome in few days.
