Abstract
A revision is made of the current state of the principal epidemiological elements of leishmaniasis in Spain (the parasite, the canine population, the sandf1ies vector, and humans), while stating the sanitary, social and economic significance of the disease. Finally, recent information is given regarding the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
