Abstract

The author, who was educated as a Hispanist in the Netherlands and United States in the 1990s, looks back on his academic trajectory with a particular eye to the fluctuating importance in it of critical theory. The article covers Spanish Civil War exile, the institutional history of Hispanism, and memory studies.
