Abstract

The Passion of Christ established important iconographic landmarks used by the Church in its propaganda through art. This repertoire, insufficient sometimes forced to resort to a plastic called devotional, where aesthetic values were relegated in favor of the pious intention of the image. This article examines the definition and diffusion of a specific iconography, Jesus gathering his clothes, which spread from Andalusia by Iberoamerica in the eighteenth century.

Es Profesor Titular de Historia del Arte de la Universidad de Granada y miembro del grupo de investigación “Andalucía-América: Patrimonio y relaciones artísticas” (HUM-806). Sus líneas de investigación se centran en el patrimonio rural, así como en las culturas americanas, incidiendo en la época prehispánica.
