Abstract

This article deals with the relevance of the eagle as an emblematic and symbolic animal that appears in sermons and hieroglyphics of funeral rites of the Spanish Monarchy queens, especially in the Latin American Viceroyalties. The main aim of the article is to show the significance of the links between the image of the Biblical strong woman, particularly the Apocalypses eagle-woman, with the Spanish queens, and their relation to the apocalyptic Marian cults in the Latin American viceroyalties.

Inmaculada Rodríguez Moya, Universitat Jaume I. Grupo Iconografía e Historia del Arte. Castellón. España.

Profesora Titular del Departamento de Historia, Geografía y Arte de la Universitat Jaume I. Su investigación se centra en la iconografía del poder, tanto en España como en Iberoamérica, desde la etapa colonial hasta el siglo XIX inclusive. En torno a dicha temática ha publicado los libros El retrato en México: 1781-1867. Héroes, emperadores y ciudadanos para una nueva nación (CSIC, 2006), junto con Mínguez, González y Chiva La fiesta barroca. Los virreinatos americanos, 1560-1808 (UJI, ULPGC, 2012), y junto con Mínguez, Himeneo en la Corte. Poder, representación y ceremonial nupcial en el arte y la cultura simbólica (CSIC, 2013).
