Abstract

The cathedral architecture novohispana takesplace mainly during the last third of the 16th century and in this context, highlights important Extremaduran stonemasons who worked in the cathedrals New Spain as Francisco Becerra, Martín Casillas, Jerome and Agustín Hernández, Alonso Pablos and Juan Trasmonte Gómez. A story full of clichés, unfounded rumors or misinterpreted data, have helped that we seem more necessary never to delineate which wasthe extent of that involvement.

Author Biography

Yolanda Fernández Muñoz, Universidad de Extremadura. Departamento de Arte y Ciencias del Territorio. Facultad de Filosofía y Letras. Cáceres.

Doctora en Hª del Arte por la Universidad de Extremadura, tiene un Master en Conservación de patrimonio Iberoamericano por la Universidad Internacional de Andalucía. Desarrolla su labor investigadora sobre las “Relaciones históricoartísticas entre el Patrimonio Extremeño e Iberoamericano”, presentando su tesis doctoral “Francisco Becerra y la influencia de la arquitectura extremeña en América”. Profesora Contratado Doctor, con la Acreditación de Titular, en el Dpto. de Historia del Arte de la UEX.
