Family archive and memory in El Edificio de los Chilenos (Macarena Aguiló 2010)

Abstract

This work is part of an ongoing research that reviews the presence of family letters in filmic texts that, from the generational perspective of “the children”, try to reconstruct the vital and political trajectories of arrested, disappeared or exiled activists when the last Latin American dictatorships. The case of El Edificio de los Chilenos (Macarena Aguiló, 2010) is discussed here to problematize the unstable condition acquired by the missives —a family file that has become public— as a narrative axis of the film.
