Analysis of the issues raised by the translation of the Arabic Sufi terminology contained in the Majlis fī dhamm al-hashīsha by Ibn Ghānim al-Maqdisī (d.1279-1280) confirm the idea that the success of a cultural translation depends primarily on the translator’s ability to translate faithfully to the reader of the translation the same referential and connotative meaning understood by the original audience of the text, and not merely its denotative or designative meaning.Downloads
