Abstract

The "aside" is one of the most frequently used procedures by the ancient playwrights in order to make the audience participa te in the play and thus break the logical development of the drama tic action. Taking as a basis Plautus' Aulularia, the different types of"aside" are exarnined and the characteristics that shape its dramatic and linguistic structure are defined.
