Abstract

This article studies an archeological complex in Dehesa de la Alfahuara (María, Orce). It is made up of a 15 hectare- wide si te which structures the surrounding are a, where another seven smaller si tes can also be found. It is situated at one of the natural intersections connecting the East coast with the Granada highplains and the Guadalquivir valleys, the pass between Maria and Orce, which could perhaps account for its existence and function. These sites were inhabited from l AD to, at least, 4 AD. The central built area, the possible street planning, the floor of sorne of its largest buildings, the building materials used etc., make us wonder whether, indeed, it could be an actual city.
