El prólogo de las Troyanas de Eurípides

The prologue of Euripides' Troades has been considered as an atypical prologue which has given rise to a relatively ample gamut of different interpretations. Based on the analysis proposed by Chr. Sourvinou-lnwood and F. M. Dunn, the present article sets out to outline a reading focused on the narrative authority exerted by the gods as well as to the deviations deployed by the poet from the drama tic conventions concerning both the beginning and the final account in his tragedies. Moreover, it is argued that if further additional innovations are taken into account, such as those connected with the mythic, literary and political tradition, it can thus be seen how the gods introduce in the prologue the main theme of the play, viz. the destruction of Troy, in terms of foundation, thereby making the Trojan setting a reversed imitation of Athens in the context of the Persian and the Peloponnesian wars.
