Abstract

In the third book ofhis Poetices Libri Septem, after dealing with all other literary genres, Scaliger wrítes on the epigram in a brief but dense chapter which has had great influence on subsequent theory. His ideas on this poetic form are analyzed, special attention being payed to the important relarions with other parts of his work (books l and IV) and the most innovative aspects ofhis description ofthe genre and its types.
