Consideraciones sobre el origen de la iconografía de los misterios mitraicos

Abstract

There is an absence of texts for knowing the Mithraic Mysteries liturgy and theology. So, the iconography found inside the mithraea has became a main font to identify which were the religious practices developed in the temples. It is very important to know the different elements which participate in its composition, and to ask for the many aspects that still are without a complete identification. With this paper, 1 want to offer a review of some of these iconographic motives, and to take into consideration other new options for their interpretation, in special relation with Iranian worship of the god Mithras.
