Abstract

J. Lezama was passionately fond ofthe classical myths. From the very beginning he felt attracted to the theme of Narcissus. He dedicated two long poems to this subjectmatter but throughout his Iiterary career the classical world became an obssession, as a so urce of knowledge and exhibition of contents. There are many references to mythical legends, sorne other times these references are hidden away under an over whelming rhetoric. He uses these references, as well as many other motifs, in order to create a cosmogony whose center is the Lezama man who is seen as the creator of the poetic word needed to unveil mysteries.
