The emperor Gordian III (23 8-244) was the frrst roman ruler in more than two hundred years that proceeded with the religious ceremony of the opening of the gates of the temple of Ianus in Rome, befare marching to the war against Persia. The custom, started by the king Numa and kept in the Republican Rome, was made for the last time by the emperors Augustus and Vespasian, but later on carne into oblivion. The author makes sorne propositions about the matter and analyses the developing of the Roman Religion from the Third Century to the Theodosian laws and the victory of Christianity who tumed the pagan cults and temples in enemies of the Imperial Power.Downloads
