El encuentro entre Apolonio y Arquístrates en la Historia Apollonii Regis Tyri

Abstract

This paper focuses on the meeting between Apollonius and king Archistrates in History Apollonii Regis Tyri 13, in order to explore its connection to Homeric epos, in particular, the meeting between Odysseus and Alcinous on Scheria, the Phaiakian’s island. I aim to analyze the modes and purposes by which this anonymous novel reworks this Odyssean segment in order to appreciate, fi nally, how several epic motifs are read and revised by a late Antiquity text. To this end, it is necessary analyze the particular infl uence the epic genre exercised on the ancient novel and, particularly, the thematic links between the Odyssey and the History Apollonii Regis Tyri.
