Abstract

Calculations about the use of wood in the metallurgical processes in the classical Roman period turn out to be absurd. We consider that the use of the Venturi effect reduced considerably the energy consumption and taking this for granted, it seems rational the equivalence between the resultant slags and the available vegetable resources. Without minimizing the ecological impact of the old metallurgy, it would be necessary to revise the estimations ttiat have been made up to now.
