Abstract

This paper presents a multidisciplinary research project on flamenco music: the COFLA project. COFLA (Computational Analysis of Flamenco Music) is a research project funded by the Andalusian Government (P09-TIC-4840). In the context of preservation of cultural heritage, the Andalusian Government has declared flamenco of special interest within the regulations of research projects.

We propose different research problems related to flamenco addressed from different disciplines that have been traditionally not considered, with a special emphasis on computational approaches. We focus on the study, from different perspectives, the characteristics of the different styles, variants and performers. Due to its multidisciplinary character, research on flamenco music will contribute to the advance on fundamental problems from varied core disciplines such as mathematics, anthropology, engineering, education and musicology.

In this paper we focus on the educational side of COFLA, with the goal of using knowledge from different disciplines to teach flamenco music.
