In this text we describe a musical awareness project applied to the Kindergarten Schools belonging to the Tarragona City Council. We explain how the project came into being during the evolution of the Music Service that the city of Tarragona has provided since 1979. We also outline the principles of the European Music School Union (EMU): “Music as a right for all citizens: Covering all ages, interests, needs and capacities in a context where all music is valued.” This project emphasizes the importance of music in children’s development and their right to be educated musically. Protecting the interests, needs, and abilities of kindergarten-level children and giving them an appropriate musically-rich environment demands the effort of all adults present in that environment.Downloads
