Abstract

Due to the fact that Spain possesses great multicultural wealth, it is necessary to promote education and intercultural dialogue through integration and interactive relations. Schools have an important role to play, and Music, thanks to its universal nature, is an essential way to encourage relationships amongst cultures. It is necessary to begin to educate people in interculture from an early age; therefore, children’s songs may constitute a fundamental resource. Folklore of every culture expresses emotions and opens everyone’s hearts.

In this work, we present the characteristics of music and give examples of popular children’s songs from the biggest social groups in the Autonomous City of Melilla: the Muslim community divided into the Tamazight and Arabic languages, and the Spanish or Christian one.
