Abstract

In the present paper we describe the processes of the hiring of immigrant workers, especially women, in the province of Malaga for the period of 2006-2010, providing details of age, sex, fields of work, and country of origin. Substantial changes observed both in immigrant workers’ profiles and in existing contracting patterns which are more oriented towards skilled immigrant women than towards illiterate or poorly skilled men, seem to explain significant changes in current migratory flows to Málaga, introducing sex as a decisive factor in immigration itself as well a bias in the present and future contracting of immigrant workers.
