Abstract

The present paper analyses migratory flows at a local level as a complex phenomenon of relationships and interactions among different waves of immigrants who have come together at the same place, each one having different motivations, aims, and purposes. We explore the development of migratory flows in Malaga’s metropolitan area, providing details about residence, age, sex, and nationality of the immigrants and its changing characteristics in an attempt to better comprehend current migration trends in the area surrounding this city. Our results seem to confirm the gradual shaping of this location as a “preferential migratory destination” in the Mediterranean basin.
