Internationalization of higher education institutions: premises and impacts on undergraduate students
Main Article Content
Abstract
The underlying concept of internationalization of higher education institutions within the European context is premised on the idea that institutions of higher education are founded on processes of promoting development of students in a holistic sense, incorporating not just intellectual growth, but social and cultural development as well.
Under this view, analyzing the impact of spending a semester abroad on students' maturity development can shed a light about the importance of outcomes including gains in both aspects of learning and personal growth.
Based on interviews this paper identifies and discusses directions for future research on how spending a semester abroad during college impacts the potential to enhance the internationalization of higher education in Europe.
