Influence of research training in research activity and scientific production at universities in El Salvador
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to determine whether research training, reflected in the academic degree, affects the research activity and scientific production. In El Salvador there are only 196 doctors for a total of 7,489 teachers and, according to the Latin American Ranking SIR (2013), the amount of scientific publications is 65. Previous studies have shown that teaching and research competence in the field of education should be developed through doctoral programs and that research practice is required (Buela-Casaly Castro, 2008; Buela-Casal et al., 2012).
The study, with probabilistic sample and cross-sectional type, involving 179 full-time faculties of the universities of El Salvador who answered a questionnaire that measures research competencies, research activities and scientific production was applied. This instrument has psychometric requirements for reliability and validity. The results showed that the degree influences the research activities and scientific production where masters and doctors are more likely to complete research projects and publish and participate in scientific conferences.
